KEYS//SYNTH: an NOAA Buoy Voice Instrument
Discover an innovative instrument that transforms live NOAA buoy data from the Florida Keys into melodic voices, merging science and sound to create an immersive auditory experience.
***NOTE: This 2026 version runs on simulated data which is modeled with historical oceanic readings. This is made necessary by the current American administration and the wealthiest human on the planet gutting the national weather services, allowing all 1000+ of the buoys to be abandoned upon their inevitable disrepair.

TIME//SYNTH
another data-based synth, a sibling to the KEYS//SYNTH. This instrument takes frequency measurements from dead neutron stars and incorporates them into the earth’s current position in it’s rotation around the sun, connecting two disperate points in space and time by making acoustic frequency signal that has been traveling through time and space longer than humans have existed on Earth.
How It Works: NOAA Buoy Voice Instrument
Discover how real-time buoy data from the Florida Keys is transformed into captivating audible voices, merging science and art in a seamless process.
Step One: Data Collection
NOAA buoys gather live oceanographic data including waves, wind, and temperature data
Step Two: Data Conversion
Raw buoy readings are translated into sound frequencies, creating unique voice-like tones produced by the conditions of the water.
Step Three: Auditory Experience
Users engage with ecology in a unique and unusual way utilizing an instrument that is musical and scientific simultaneously for a truly unique experience.
